Original Summary

Ok I need to say something about AEO because the space is filling up with the same people (and same reddit posts) who were selling AI agency courses last year. The standard proof you get shown is a screenshot of ChatGPT recommending the client. Run that same prompt ten times and you'll get different brands in a different order so that screenshot tells you nothing. It's the $300k/month thumbnail of this niche. I run an agency (8 years now).... SaaS MVPs first, then GTM and AI automations and lately AEO is the main thing we sell. Client has a subscription business. I'm keeping them anonymous because they didn't sign up to be a case study on reddit. We did their AEO and it wasn't instant which made for a fun set of client calls btw. Then they started showing up in answers on ChatGPT and Perplexity and now most of their leads come from LLMs. Those leads turned into paid subscribers which is the only part I care about You won't see any of this in GA. People get the recommendation, open a new tab and type the brand name. The only reliable way to see it is to ask. Put a free text "how did you hear about us" field on the signup form. If you sell this service and you aren't collecting that field you can't prove your own work. Two things did most of the work and the courses teach neither. Firstly, ChatGPT has a shortlist in its head before it searches. Ask it a category question with one of the free extensions that expose its background searches and you'll see brand names in the first query that you never typed. If the client isn't one of those names then polishing their blog is a waste of the retainer. Secondly, for pricing and specs it goes to the brand's own domain with a site: search. The pricing page is client side rendered so the crawler gets an empty div (I've built enough React MVPs to feel personally responsible for this one lol) Or the brand lives on a getbrand.com type domain, ChatGPT guesses brand.com, searches a parked page and moves on. Both take 5 minutes to check and either one makes the whole content plan pointless That's the service. It took us past $6k MRR this week which is small and I'm fine with it. I don't have this figured out. The models change every few weeks and half of what worked in spring is already dead so ask me again in December. TLDR: subscription client gets most of its leads from ChatGPT and Perplexity now and they convert to paid. GA can't see it, so ask on the signup form. Get the brand into the model's shortlist before touching content and make sure the pricing page renders without JS on a domain ChatGPT can actually find. We're at $6k MRR. submitted by /u/Warm-Reaction-456 [link] [comments]
