Original Summary
I'm building Lumina, an iPhone app for the record-keeping around shooting film: unused rolls, camera gear, what's loaded, exposure notes and rolls waiting on the lab. It's now on the App Store. The main product decision was to connect those records to a light meter instead of making five separate lists. The flow is: add a camera, load a roll in the app, meter at that roll's rated ISO, then save the reading to the roll and frame. It's a manual companion to a film camera, not automatic frame detection. Two constraints shaped it: - On-device storage. No account, tracking or server; local backup and CSV export instead of cloud sync. The tradeoff is that users need to make backups before switching phones. - Free permanently. I originally considered a paid-download model, but decided to keep the whole app free. No ads, in-app purchases or subscription. I'm not presenting this as a revenue success story. It's native Swift, built with AI coding assistance. There are no generative-AI features in the app. The product question I'm working on now is first use: should an app like this start with adding one camera and its loaded roll, or let people catalogue their film first? I'd appreciate feedback on which makes the value clearer without a long setup. Requires iPhone with iOS 17 or later: https://apps.apple.com/ca/app/lumina-film-light-meter/id6758922305 submitted by /u/FriendshipFamiliar83 [link] [comments]
