Original Summary

8BitForge is a chiptune studio that runs entirely in the browser: 8 tracks, a 32 step sequencer and a piano roll, square, triangle, saw, sine and noise oscillators with ADSR, filters and LFOs, and export to WAV, MP3, FLAC, OGG, AIFF or MIDI . Its sound engine, ChiptuneSynth , is a Web Audio library with zero dependencies. There were three of us on this project, and it was closed. My two collaborators recently moved on, which finally lets me take it where I always wanted: it was meant to be open source from the start, but when you're three you don't get to decide everything on your own. Well, today I do 🙂 The app and the engine are going open source under the MIT license. I'm a composer myself, and I always wanted 8BitForge to be something given back to people who make music, not a product built around licenses. Fair warning, this is all very fresh. The GitHub repo, the npm package and the website don't reflect it yet, they still show the old license and the pricing. All of that is going away soon, starting with making sure creators can get their projects back locally. An official announcement will go up on the site and users will be notified shortly. The code is also about to change a lot, so there's a big job ahead of me, and I'm loving it. 🎹 App: 8bitforge.com ⚙️ Engine: github.com/8Binami/chiptune-synth If you're into Web Audio or chiptune, what would you like to see first once it's open? 🥳🎉🎹👾🚀 submitted by /u/dakitodev [link] [comments]
