I’m a chef working on Sark in the Channel Islands, and over the last few months I’ve been building an Android astronomy app called NAKED EYE around my kitchen shifts. The whole reason I started it was pretty simple — I kept finding out about interesting things in the night sky after I’d already missed them. I’m not a professional developer or astronomer. I’ve basically learned as I’ve gone, and the app is now properly live on Google Play. I’ve recently started experimenting with TikTok as another way of getting NAKED EYE in front of people. I’m starting pretty much from zero there, so I thought it could be interesting to document whether TikTok actually works as a growth channel for a tiny independent app. I’ll be posting astronomy stuff, things you can actually see in the sky, bits of the app, and probably some of the story behind building it while working as a chef.
