Original Summary
I opened RevenueCat and saw something new: 2 active subscriptions and $11 MRR. Someone had finally paid for DollarBuddy. Then another person did. I know $11 is not much. I cannot even withdraw it yet. But after seeing people download the app, create accounts, start trials, and disappear, this felt different. A few days ago, I posted here about how we had over-engineered DollarBuddy. We added expense tracking, travel budgets, currency conversion, receipt scanning, bill splitting, itineraries, an AI assistant, insights, and several other features. PostHog later showed us that many of those features were barely being used. That was difficult to accept because my team and I had spent a lot of time building them. We were measuring our progress by what we released, while users were quietly showing us what they did and did not care about. Now we have 9 active trials, 2 active subscriptions, and our first $11 in recurring revenue. The money itself does not change anything for the business. What changed is that two people reached the paywall and decided the app was worth paying for. Our next step is to study what those subscribers did differently from everyone who left. Which features did they use? How quickly did they reach something valuable? What made them continue after the trial? I have spent months wondering whether anyone would pay for DollarBuddy. I finally have an answer, even if it came from only two people. For those further along, what did you investigate when your first few free users started converting?
