I'm building Quarkit - a cross-platform installer generator for desktop applications. I was fed up with heavy installers, custom scripts, troubles with multiple platforms so I'm deciding to build my own OPEN SOURCE and FREE installer generator. The story: I coded an app for desktop for one of my project, when finally was the time to make installers, the size of the installer was bigger than my app! I thought at that moment that it was so unfair that I decided to do my own installer. I'm going to carefully design the project while asking people what they think is the most annoying thing about desktop installers. Sooo what annoying things have you've encountered in installers? For me it's: Binary size increases Needing to learn Custom Scripts It not being cross-platform Looking old What would you want in an installer and a installer generator? CI integration? Nice custom GUI capabilities? Handling updates nicely? It generating for all platforms? Easy to understand manifest? Super small size?
