Original Summary

I have been building Reslug, a link shortener with custom domains, QR codes and analytics, and posting updates here for a while. Here is the honest breakdown of what worked and what did not. Worked: AlternativeTo and SaaSHub. Not huge volume, but the most qualified traffic by far. People arriving from there already know what a Bitly alternative is and why they want one, so they sign up with intent. Did not work: paid directory listings. Spent money, got impressions, got nothing that converted. Also did not work: dropping posts into communities where I had never participated. Zero traction and it feels bad to do, so I stopped. Current state: 123 users, 4 paying. Not a business yet. But the signal I care about is that users who add a custom domain in their first session are the ones who convert. Everyone else churns quietly. Next thing I am testing is pushing custom domain setup much earlier in onboarding. Happy to answer anything about the stack or anything else. submitted by /u/ervistrupja [link] [comments]
