Original Summary

The iPhone Duo comes out on the 23rd. While testing in Apple's simulator, one thing about the outer screen kept bugging me. Safari puts its controls in a strip down the right side and every web page stops short of it. On a screen that small it's a lot of wasted space. So I built OutSpan, a Safari extension that lets pages run underneath that strip and use the full width. You switch it to Wide from Safari's page menu and it remembers that for every site. Widening the page was the easy part. The hard part was everything that broke after: - Safari stops drawing the page under its controls the moment something like a menu's dark overlay touches that strip, so opening a site's menu made the page look narrow again - floating buttons like accessibility widgets ended up hidden under Safari's controls - some pages got nudged sideways while scrolling Each one needed its own fix, and I tested on sites like Reddit, MacRumors and Wikipedia in the simulator. Getting it on the App Store took two tries. The first submission got rejected because I had "Duo" in the subtitle (Apple doesn't let you use their product names there) and because I forgot to submit the in-app purchase along with the app. Fixed both and they approved it right away. I was actually surprised. It's free to download with a 3 day trial, then $3.99 once. No subscription, no account, no tracking.
