Original Summary
I love competitive Counter-Strike, but 5v5 with randoms against randoms got repetitive for me, so I built outaimed.com: queue up, play quick 1v1s against other players and climb the ladder. Plus solo aim challenges with leaderboards. It's free. The part I enjoyed building most is the server layer. Game server instances spin up when a match needs one and despawn when the game is finished, and the match result flows into the ladder automatically. While a match runs, its page updates live after every game round. I can scale the game server infrastructure on the go, without interrupting the service. Right now demand is, let's say, modest :D To be fair, it's day three of the project's lifetime. The opening weekend went better than I hoped: more than 100 matches and more than 300 solo challenge runs (I played quite a few of them myself, but hey, I built it to be part of it). I got a ton of feedback, and a lot of the community's ideas are already live or planned. Most changes ship the next day. After that weekend I know this thing works and can be really fun, at least that's the vibe my small community gave me. There's also a server-side anti-cheat that checks every match demo. It's early, and it gets better with every match played, because every demo helps me tune it. Longer term I want to explore training a model on the demos, but that's future work. To be honest, I can't wait to see the first real cheater on my servers. I'm pretty sure the anti-cheat will flag them, at least if they use any significant aim assistance. Next up is a cup system. A ladder needs people online at the same time, a cup brings them together at a fixed time, ideally with a skin as the prize for the winner, for additional motivation. Any CS2 players here by chance? Give it a spin and tell me what you think! KUMPELBLASE from outaimed.com submitted by /u/KUMP3LBLA5E [link] [comments]
