Original Summary
A while ago, I shared Image Lab 1 here . The basic idea was to generate multiple creative directions from one brief, instead of getting stuck tweaking the same prompt over and over. Since then, I've been working on Image Lab 2, mainly trying to improve the part that happens before image generation. For this version, I used a slightly ridiculous test brief: make an ordinary Woolworths shopping trolley look like the hero product in a luxury car advertisement. Rather than generating 35 random variations, I explored five distinct creative directions, each changing things like composition, camera angle, layout and visual style while keeping the core product and brief consistent. The result was 35 images using one image model, for about $0.65 in total . The other big change is the planning process. Image Lab 2 turns the brief into an editable Excel creative matrix, where I can review and filter the directions before deciding which ones to generate. The aim is to spend less time generating images that miss the point, and more time exploring ideas that are actually worth pursuing. I'm sharing the five directions and a screenshot of the spreadsheet so you can see both the results and how I got there. A few things still need work. AI doesn't reliably follow every instruction, and a well-organised plan doesn't guarantee a great image. But this feels like a more useful workflow than treating prompt tweaking as the whole creative process. Image Lab 2 is open source. I'll leave the case study and code in the comments. For anyone who's worked with AI image generation: would you rather have more control over one prompt, or a structured way to explore several creative directions before generating? And what would you improve about this workflow? submitted by /u/woulatte [link] [comments]
