Original Summary

Hey everyone! I’m the creator of NostalgicTube. I missed getting lost in old YouTube videos, so I built a browser extension that helps you explore videos uploaded before a date you choose. The default cutoff is January 2022, but you can go further back. Here’s what it does: Replaces your homepage and sidebar recommendations with older videos. Learns your interests locally from searches and videos you watch. Includes a Variety slider to mix related recommendations with unexpected discoveries. Lets you choose which languages are used for discovery searches. Supports Brave, Chrome, and Edge, with English and Spanish interfaces. It’s free and open source. It’s still in beta, and installation is currently manual: download the ZIP, extract it, and load the extension through your browser’s developer mode. The instructions are on GitHub. GitHub: https://github.com/yomidee/NostalgicTube A quick heads-up: discovery uses randomized searches, so it isn’t a perfectly random sample of all YouTube videos, and loading can sometimes take a moment. I’d love some honest feedback: does this sound useful to you? If you try it, how do the recommendations feel, and what would you improve? Thanks for checking it out! submitted by /u/YoMiiiX [link] [comments]
