Original Summary
I'm a final-year English Literature student and most of my reading happens in a browser. I got tired of juggling a PDF reader, a notes app and a citation tool, so I built an extension that does all of it. It's called Arcaneum Focus. What it does: Distraction-free reader mode for any article Highlights with colors and tags, plus floating notes you can place anywhere on the page A "string" system: draw visual connections between your notes and highlights, like a detective's corkboard Citation generator (APA, MLA, Chicago) that pulls metadata from the page A built-in PDF viewer with the same tools Export option for Markdown, plain text or HTML It's free, there's no account, and there's no backend. Nothing leaves your browser. I'm not planning to put limits on the free version. Focus is one part of something bigger I'm building, called The Arcaneum. The other part is an open publication where researchers and writers can publish long-form essays for a general audience, because a lot of good academic thinking stays locked inside journals. The goal is a small ecosystem for people who read and write seriously: tools for reading, and a place to publish. It's one person at a very early stage, not a company behind a username. I'm a student who wants this to exist, and I'm building it slowly and on purpose. I'd really like to know what feels wrong or missing, in the extension or in the bigger idea. You guys can cheak it on - http://focus.thearcaneum.org Update - to the 16 people who already saw this post from a different account, it was me that was my new account I didn't realised I was posting from that account. So I deleted the post from that account and posted from the main account. submitted by /u/Ok_Strategy0_11 [link] [comments]
