Original Summary
I, as a kid, some time ago had a huge and horrible obsession with gaming. I would game instead of eating, instead of doing homework, instead of playing outside. And I wasn't even allowed to game at all. Not once a year, never. And there was this one specific day my father noticed me playing a video game. My excuse of “trying something new” worked, sure. But my father told me one sentence that completely changed how I feel about the no-games rule. “Games make you stupid if you play too long. But if there wasn't the addiction effect they have now, we would have allowed you to play games. “ and this made a bigger push than any scolding could make. So I made "Productivity breacher," a way better version of the screen time you know today. Its perk is – you, yes YOU control the time you wanna play. You set a timer from 1 second to 2 hours and the app lets you play. But when the timer ends, a cooldown starts. It's 1.5 times longer than the timer, and during the cooldown you can't open any blocked apps and can't set any timers. If you try to open an app it will be insta-killed through psutil. The UI is made with pygame, has a parent app connecting to the main app through socket. Here's the GitHub link: https://github.com/Productivitybreacherguy/Productivity_breacher You should know, I wrote the bare bones of the app here. For more details check patch notes and readme in GitHub. its made in python, and I try my best to post weekly updates every Sunday 9 AM(California). v.2.1, the C̸O̷N̶T̷E̸N̷T̶ update is OUT NOW, you would definitely wanna check it out, I introduced a truck of new functions. Being real here, I loved making it. P.S. It’s my first time making a proper app and advertising it, asking you to not go too hard on me with the things I may have done wrong. Already getting ready for the wave of Criticism I might get for adding... Oh well let it be a secret for now. Criticism is supported, just not toxicity. Also, I took a little break for a few days before going with the Halloween update, and funnily enough, the very day I finished it I got sick. Oh well, that's all for now. submitted by /u/budupisatelem [link] [comments]
