Original Summary
Every time a limited edition console or controller drops, it sells out in minutes and shows up on eBay at double the price. I've seen in a few Reddit communities how frustrating it is to keep losing to scalper bots. My buddy and I ended up getting the special edition console we really wanted, partly because I got obsessed and built a website to track it, kind of as a fun thing to do with AI. It started as triforcetracker.com. Then I figured other people could use something like this for other special editions, so I turned it into editiontracker.com. What it does: Lists special and limited editions (consoles, controllers, collector's editions, amiibo, LEGO) with the real price, release date and where to buy Emails you when something you follow is back in stock at the normal price Posts restocks to Bluesky, X and Discord No ads, no affiliate links The restock alerts are the main point of the site, and that's what I've been working hardest to get right. It's mostly set up, but I'm sure there are better ways to do it. How it works: A static site on GitHub Pages, built from one JSON file Twice a day, an AI model reads gaming news and suggests changes as a pull request. I check every one before it goes live, so nothing gets published on a guess. Best Buy's API will be checked every hour for a few hard-to-find items, once Best Buy approves my key What it costs me (it's all on the About page): about $15 to $20 a month, plus $11 a year for the domain. I have very little experience with any of this. I'm just a guy trying something new with AI, like a lot of posts here lately. It's small (about 40 releases so far) and I'm the only one running it, so I'd love feedback, especially on what's missing or confusing. https://editiontracker.com submitted by /u/colbert45 [link] [comments]
