Original Summary
This is a lesson on market research and doing the uncomfortable part. I build a small niche product for gyms, and i essentially built a minimal end to end POC. I searched small clubs around my area and I planned to just drop by and talk to owners. I printed out a handout to leave with them. I was kind of excited because I build a great app, but also terrified just approaching business and talk about it with strangers. I myself hate talking to sales people and solicitors Anyway, i walked into a club and talked to the owner, and right off the bat he said, something like “if this involves switching members to a new system, I’m not interested “ He then when off for 10 min, about the only y thing he cares about was access, billing, and getting people to join. He doesn’t care about an app or anything, he knows his members by name, and on and on. The take away for me was: the amount of information I learned in this 10 min is more valuable than any online market research and aahrefs keyword research, etc. From this one meeting, I was able to do a confident pivot and have a stronger understanding of the market I want to focus on. So, I would say to anyone out there, if you want to save time and Energy, go talk to users early and often, that has always been the hard part and the part that most people don’t do. Especially now in the age of AI and agentic development. Spend less time developing and more talking to people. This is coming from a guy who is an introvert and is terrified of approaching people. submitted by /u/frnieery [link] [comments]
