Original Summary
The idea came from learning about how options can be combined to replicate different payoff profiles. I thought it would be cool to turn that mathematical result into something interactive, so I built a desktop app where you can draw a payoff curve with your mouse and have the algorithm find an options portfolio that approximates it. It also works with any mathematical function directly if you prefer working with the math. The app has a numerical mode with an artificial grid of strikes, as well as a mode that uses real option chains for indices like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100. It’s written in Python, using Tkinter and Matplotlib for the interface, along with NumPy, SciPy, and a few other libraries for the calculations and market data. Obviously, it has some limitations, especially when working with real options, where you're restricted to the strikes actually available in the market. But building it has been a fun way to learn more about quantitative finance and turn a theoretical result into something tangible. Here's the repo if anyone wants to check it out: https://github.com/Serranegra/TooManyOptions I'd love to hear what you think, especially if you have suggestions for improving the app or making the interface more useful. submitted by /u/Quiet-Cup-1501 [link] [comments]
