Original Summary
Every morning at 08:00 (London time), one random subscriber to The Soapbox is picked to write a single email. Whatever they write goes to everyone on the list the next morning. That's it. That's the product. How it works Sign up with just an email. No passwords, only sign-in links. Each morning one subscriber is drawn at random. Refer friends and you get extra entries (up to 10). The person picked writes one email: a subject and up to 2,000 characters of plain text. It's anonymous unless they sign their name. I read every one before it goes out. No spam, no selling, nothing nasty. Subscribers can reply, and the writer sees the replies (including the replier's email address, which every email says up front). Some days nobody writes, or it doesn't get approved. Then there's no email. I've decided that's part of the charm. Why I kept wondering what normal people would say if they suddenly had a big audience for one day. Not influencers, just whoever happens to get drawn. A confession, a recommendation, a rant about their bus route, a thank-you to a stranger. I want to find out and I think it will lean in a sweet direction Stack (for those who care) SvelteKit 5, Tailwind v4, shadcn-svelte, Cloudflare (D1, turnstile, workers, email, queues). Emails are multipart, with a plain-text part and a light HTML part. Where it's at I built and launched it today and sent it to some friends who are already sending it to their friends. The first draw is tomorrow morning. Let's see what happens... What I'd love feedback on Would you actually sign up? If not, what's stopping you? Replies expose your email address to the writer. Is that a deal breaker, or fine since it's clearly disclosed? Should past Soapboxes be public on the site, or stay in subscribers' inboxes? (I'm thinking of asking the best Soapboxers to let me publish their emails on the site to give a feel to people who are visiting.) https://thesoapbox.email Join the list and share it with your friends to boost your chances. Any and all feedback greatly appreciated, this is very much an experiment rather than a money spinner! submitted by /u/practisingdeeplurk [link] [comments]
