Original Summary
Hey everyone! I’m building Spark Grid , a marketplace where developers can rent computing power from people’s spare desktop computers. The idea is to connect developers who need hardware for AI inference, macOS builds, or automation with people whose machines spend much of their time idle. How is this different from existing services? There are already GPU marketplaces, decentralized compute networks, and Mac rental services. Spark Grid’s proposed focus is bringing several kinds of consumer hardware into one marketplace: Different hardware for different jobs: Apple Silicon for macOS builds, NVIDIA hardware for CUDA workloads, and small x86 machines for lightweight automation. A simpler path from hardware to workflow: choose a machine for a specific task, with planned SSH, Jupyter, and project-upload access. An approachable hosting experience: let desktop owners control when they share their machine and see its usage and earnings. These are the product goals I’m testing, rather than claims that existing platforms lack these features. Pricing, reliability, and security still need to be proven. The website is an interactive prototype. Hardware access, rentals, availability, and earnings are simulated; you can’t rent real compute yet. You can explore it here: Spark-Grid I’d love your feedback: What would you use this for, and what hardware would you need? If you already use a compute marketplace, what would make you switch? As a potential host, what security protections and controls would you need? There’s an early-access signup if you’d like to hear when real hardware access is ready. submitted by /u/destroyeranyone [link] [comments]
