Original Summary
Link: https://tryanalisa.com Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/dWslmp6 It's a free site that pulls a lot of US public data into one place and makes it explorable. Three main parts: Explore: a map of every US county (also metros, cities and neighborhoods) where you pick what matters to you, like cost of living, schools, safety, broadband or distance to nature, and it scores and ranks places. It uses 126 indicators from 38 public sources (Census, CDC, FBI, BLS, EPA and more). Click any county to see its numbers and where each one comes from. Contracts: where federal contract money goes, by state and county. Around 36 million contract actions since 2021. You can see who gets the money, which agencies spend it, and things like how much was awarded without competition (one in three dollars in 2025). Congress and elections: every member's voting record, bills and committees, plus every House and Senate race for 2026. Type your county to see your races, who's running and where their campaign money comes from. Some of the harder parts: - Federal spending data is big and messy. Each fiscal year file is 1-2 GB, and records get corrected or deleted after the fact, so the pipeline has to handle late changes, not just new rows. - 9 states redrew their congressional maps for 2026, and the Census only published block-level files for the new lines, so I rebuilt the new districts from 2020 census blocks. - Every source has its own quirks. FEC filings list districts that don't exist, senate.gov blocks automated access (Senate votes come from Voteview instead), and some state coordinates in one dataset were literally in the ocean. - Keeping it fast with tens of millions of rows. Most of the work went into precomputed summaries and caching so the maps load quickly. Stack: Next.js, Postgres, Leaflet for the maps, and a pipeline that checks every source for new data daily. Every number shows its source and date. It doesn't grade politicians or tell you who to vote for, it just puts the numbers side by side. Free to browse, no account needed. I'd really like feedback: what's confusing, what's missing, what you'd use it for. submitted by /u/tiagoantunespt [link] [comments]
