Original Summary
A French motion designer, Bénédict Aubry, posted a short animation called "Roller" for Motiontober: a tiny roller skater riding a spinning pink record. People in the comments kept asking where they could play it, so I asked him if I could make a playable version. He said yes, and later sent me the original music too. Play it here: https://groove-skater.vercel.app/ What you can do: - Drag the skater (or use WASD) onto the grooves and the song plays from that spot. The outer edge is the start of the song, the inner edge is the end. - Jump (tap or Space) and the needle lifts, so the music stops while you're in the air. - Skate along the groove to scratch. Going with the spin slows the music down, and outrunning it plays the song backwards. - Walk off the record or onto the label and it goes quiet, like a real record. - The pink buttons are power and 33/45 RPM. A and B switch between the two versions of the artist's track. - You can also drop in your own song. It stays in your browser. How it's built: a single HTML file with Canvas 2D and Web Audio, no framework. The song is decoded forward and reversed, and every frame the playback speed comes from how fast the record surface is moving under the skater. To get the look right, I went through the original video frame by frame and measured the camera angle, the colours, and how the skate trails thicken and fade. All the art direction, motion and music are Bénédict's. I only built the interactive part.
