I've been using Ant Renamer for years. It's a batch renaming tool originally written by Antoine Potten in Delphi 7, and it's always done the job well. The problem was that it only ran on Windows, and I wanted to use it on Linux too. So I asked Antoine for permission to port it. He agreed, and I rewrote it in C++ with Qt 6, keeping the original GPL v2 license and crediting him as the original author. The result is Ant Renamer Qt , currently at version 3.0.0-rc.10. It keeps the original approach of combining several renaming operations into a single job: text replacement, numbering, regular expressions, date and time formatting, and much more. It also supports EXIF, IPTC and XMP metadata for photos, as well as ID3 tags for music. Since I work with photos myself, I spent quite a bit of time on that side of things. JPG and RAW files can share the same numbering, and .xmp and .dop sidecar files follow their images when renamed, including when reverting the operation. The Qt version also brings Linux support, an optional modern layout, a filter to show only files whose names will change, and user guides and recipe collections in English and French. It's still a release candidate. I've added automated tests for the core engine and tested the latest build on a real set of DNG and JPG files with their sidecars. Everything worked as expected, but testing your own software on your own machines only gets you so far. I'm looking for people willing to try it on their systems, particularly Linux users running different distributions, and anyone with a large photo collection who can test it on a copy of their files.
