Original Summary
Hi r/SideProject ! I want to share Pulse, a free and open-source Windows app I've been building on the side. The problem: Windows already records why your PC crashed or restarted, but as "Kernel-Power 41, BugcheckCode 159" in Event Viewer. Almost nobody can read that. What Pulse does: it reads the same events and tells you what happened in plain English, for example: Windows restarted after a blue screen. Stop code: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. Usually a driver or device that took too long to respond. Features Live timeline of Windows events in plain language, with raw details one click away Explains blue screens, forced shutdowns, power losses and hardware errors System health: CPU, memory, GPU, disk and network per process Opens event logs exported from another PC (useful for helping friends or IT support) Reports that hide personal details by default, so they're safe to share Fully offline: no telemetry, no account, no cloud. Read-only by design The journey so far Stack: a C++ Windows service collects the data, a Flutter desktop app shows it Built with AI coding assistants , but I make every product decision and test every release on real machines Feedback loop: I posted it on Reddit. People asked for a blue screen analyser, a way to open logs from other PCs and clearer privacy, and all three shipped in version 1.4 Unexpected win: IlSoftware.it, an Italian tech site, wrote an article about it Biggest lesson: listen to the "boring" comments. The most useful feedback wasn't feature requests but questions like "does any data leave my PC?" and "why not just use Reliability Monitor?". Answering those clearly in the README did more than any new feature Links GitHub (MIT): https://github.com/Regncreative/Pulse Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PNDTLNTJ82T Website: https://pulse.regncreative.com I'd love feedback on two things: First impression: is it clear what it does within a few seconds? What should it explain next? Someone recently asked "what keeps waking my PC from sleep?", and that's on my list. Thanks for reading! submitted by /u/mrsinanx [link] [comments]
