Original Summary
Shipped a journaling app in March. Single-digit installs, zero revenue, and I'd quietly decided nobody wanted it. Moved it off Replit in August to fix it up, and found out what was really going on: The production build's backend address was literally a placeholder. AI features failed silently and showed fallback text, so it looked fine. The subscription key came from that same backend, so nobody could buy anything. If someone had paid anyway, the code checked for an entitlement called
premium. RevenueCat called itReflectMindAI. Charged and still locked out. I only found the paywall was a dead end when my own trial expired and I couldn't subscribe to my own app. The website had testimonials I made up. Five stars, "loved by reflective thinkers worldwide". For an app nobody had used. Those are gone. Then I deployed the backend to Railway. Green "Online" badge, health check passing. It was running the Expo dev server. Railway stopped reading railway.json for new services, and the dev server returns 200 on everything, so the health check was happy. Today the first purchase this app has ever had went through. Test card, but the whole chain worked. Not one actual bug. All config. Anyone else find out months later that their launch was broken by something this dumb? submitted by /u/duct_tape_and_agents [link] [comments]- 情报分类:商业与市场研究
