Original Summary
I'm working on Apartment, a way to see your home in 3D and find devices by their physical location. My mum and sister already find smart home controls confusing. That has made me think more about whether finding a device by its location could be easier than remembering its name in an app. After sharing an earlier version on r/HomeKit , people made a fair point: good automation should usually happen without opening a dashboard. I agree. The narrower problem I'm exploring is what happens when someone does need to check or change something manually. Could a familiar view of the room help? This video shows the interface I'm building, with simulated device states and energy readings. The HomeView shots illustrate how I imagine a widget could look; they aren't a confirmed native integration. The compatibility badges show the integrations I'm targeting, not a shipping release. The hard part is making setup simple enough that the 3D view is worth the effort. Would you set up a floor plan for this, or would a few clearly named buttons work better? I'm the developer.
