Heya! A few weeks ago, I was inspired by this and fell down a massive rabbit hole building Selene: https://selene.malo-interactive.net/ On the surface, it’s a browser-based wallpaper and rendering engine that streams live lunar elevation data (LRO LOLA & Kaguya SLDEM2015) and turns any crater or region on the Moon into art. Right in your browser, you can: Render custom wallpapers (up to 8K): Trace contour lines, dot-matrix grids, or stepped paper-style terraces with custom palettes, survey-style index lines, and crater coordinate overlays. Mask 2D silhouettes: Upload any logo or silhouette to fill the bright areas with live lunar contour maps (I recently used this to share some renders over on [ r/LinkinPark ](insert link), which finally gave me the courage to post the tool itself!). Build interactive 3D Stacks: Turn elevation data into exploded 3D layered models, tweak the lighting, and export high-res renders, 8-second turntable videos (.webm), or .glb 3D scenes. Ex port for 3D Printers, Laser Cutters & Pen Plotters: This part kinda snowballed.. it can generate manifold .STLs, multi-color .3MF files (with automatic M600 filament swaps pre-configured for Bambu/Orca/PrusaSlicer), B-spline .STEP CAD files, and travel-optimized .SVG paths for pen plotters and shadow-box laser cutting. I know it’s the kind of niche sandbox tool most people will probably just play with for a day or two to make a cool desktop background (especially before you start noticing its flaws lol), and it doesn't have any accounts or monetization, I just had a lot of fun building it and wanted something like this for literal decades, and I decided to publish it as I got lots of positive feedback whenever I showed it to friends!
