Original Summary
Hi all. I'm a solo developer, and I've been building Moonrain , a sleep-sound app for iPhone and iPad. Version 1.2 just went live, so it felt like a good moment to share how it's going and ask for some honest advice. What it is Free and fully offline: no account, no ads, no subscription, no tracking 28 sounds (rain, ocean, fire, fans, brown/pink/white noise) that you can mix, up to four at a time A sleep timer that fades out once you're asleep New in 1.2: whispered ASMR in 3D sound guided wind-downs and a breathing guide "Environments" (a café, a library, a rainy tea house) for focus a gentle wake alarm and a dim bedside clock How it's going, honestly Downloads: launched July 16, about 2,400 so far (from roughly 8,700 App Store impressions). Where users are: roughly 3 in 4 installs came from Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, which I never targeted. A big chunk came from one deal blog, and most of those people didn't stick around. Who sticks: the people who keep using it found it through App Store search, and, to my surprise, through ChatGPT recommendations. Ratings: only 4. It turned out the review prompt in 1.0 could barely ever appear; that's fixed now. Revenue: $0. I'd like the core to stay free. Where I'd love your input Should I lean into Taiwan (Traditional Chinese interface, local sounds), or keep focusing on English-speaking markets? How do you get early users to leave a rating without being annoying? Is there a fair way to fund it later, like a tip jar or a one-time unlock for extras, that doesn't break the "free, no catch" promise? If you use a sleep or focus sound app, what keeps it on your phone after the first week? Blunt feedback on the app or the plan is very welcome.
