Original Summary
Have you ever been frustrated when trying to "screenshare" the website with ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude etc? You don't want to tediously scroll each section and take a screenshot. You don't want to pull up a screen recorder. You definitely don't want to just copy the text alone since the website content collapses into unintelligible list of words. I created a simple Chrome Extension (called "Copy4Chat" on the chrome web store) which copies the content you highlighted "semantically" (no worries no machine learning involved here). When you paste it it will preserve the web content as accurate as possible so that the chatbot and you can read without squinting or piecing the information back together. Here is an example, you drag along the car rental booking site with your cursor, right click, and select "Copy4Chat" in the menu and paste to the chatbot, or any notepad for that matter, and you get this nice ASCII rendering of the webcontent you tried to copy ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │ ┌──────────────────────────────┐ ┌─ Pickup ───────────────┐ │ │ │ ┌─ ickup location ─────────┐ │ │ ┌────────────────────┐ │ │ │ │ │ [ Same return location ] │ │ │ │ mm/dd/yyyy │ │ │ │ │ └──────────────────────────┘ │ │ │ [ 10/14/2026____ ] │ │ │ │ │ Pickup location │ │ │ Oct 14 │ │ │ │ │ [ ____________ ] │ │ └────────────────────┘ │ │ │ │ Return location │ │ Pick Up Time │ │ │ │ [ ____________ ] ‹focused› │ │ ( noon ▾ ) │ │ │ └──────────────────────────────┘ └────────────────────────┘ │ │ ┌─ Return ───────────────┐ │ │ │ ┌────────────────────┐ │ │ │ │ │ mm/dd/yyyy │ │ │ │ │ │ [ 10/15/2026____ ] │ │ │ │ │ │ Oct 15 │ │ │ │ │ └────────────────────┘ │ │ │ │ Return Time │ │ │ │ ( noon ▾ ) │ │ │ └────────────────────────┘ │ │ [ Show Cars ] │ └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘ Few clarifications: No image processing : it doesn't capture the image of the site and parse the text Doesn't need to be for Chatbot: You can use it to create documents, wire frames professionally, without needing to use LLM No LLM / ML involved : this is critical, this is done all algorithmically, locally in your browser No server calls: Yup, you can try turning off the WiFi and confirm that it works * Doesn't need to be a form site : It can be any HTML rich website. and it's free https://github.com/hyunwookshin/copy4chat https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/jfcmdbgodjiacadofiacehfmnnonfjec?utm_source=item-share-cb submitted by /u/cyzium [link] [comments]
