Original Summary
My SteelSeries Arctis Nova has a physical dial that balances game and chat audio. The older Arctis headsets did this in hardware with no app at all, but on the newer ones it only works on Windows while SteelSeries GG and Sonar run in the background. On my PC that was about 465 MB of RAM for one knob. A year ago I asked SteelSeries to change that. Nothing happened, so I made OpenChatMix: It reads the dial straight from the headset over USB and balances game and chat per app About 1 MB, a few MB of RAM, 0% CPU when idle It also took over the headset settings I used to open GG for, and added an equalizer that works with any headset Free and open source (MIT) The reverse engineering is mine: I captured and decoded my GameDAC's USB traffic. The code was written with AI. Making it look and feel like a proper Windows app took longer than getting the dial working. If you have an Arctis headset, I'd love to hear whether it works on yours: https://github.com/Swiftlyx/OpenChatMix submitted by /u/randylixht [link] [comments]
