Original Summary

Hi HN, I built pippin, a native Rust client for macOS's "High-Performance" Screen Sharing mode on Linux. There are lots of options that can get you usable, high resolution remote access to macOS from non-Apple devices, but until recently there were no options that did not require installing and maintaining a server on your Mac.
Apple normally restricts High-Performance Screen Sharing (HEVC 4:4:4 video, system audio, and dynamic display resizing) to Mac-to-Mac connections. A week or two ago I discovered iShareScreen (https://github.com/renegadelink/iShareScreen), which did the heavy lifting of reverse-engineering Apple's protocol into a working Python client.
I did have some performance issues using the python implementation on a few of my machines, so I used iShareScreen as a reference and built a Rust client with Claude.
