Original Summary
I create my app because I wanted it. It's basically an alternative to the £20p/m language app subscriptions in large part as a rejection of the massive costs of them. What I have come to realise though is that most of the costs that people pay goes in to advertising, to get the users in the first place. The same applies to all the games you see adverts for - that are nearly unplayable due to the endless adverts and massively expensive subscriptions. I am sure there are loads of games out there for a reasonable price at a low cost - we just have no way of ever finding them. My idea for a solution (and I've started work on it) is to create a parallel 'App Store' that features a curated set of Apps that are... Broadly useful and high quality Feature no intrusive advertising Are useful without spending actual money Do not feature unnecessary subscriptions This is not to say they can't be for profit, but I want to specifically avoid low-effort cash grab misleading shovelware in favour of quality apps that are fair. Admission to the site would be through a democratic vote of all existing members to approve the applicant. Each app would then be required to display a badge/banner/icon on the home page of their app to provide a link to help promote the source site. I do not plan on charging for anything, nor profiting from it in any way - which seems strange but I am an old school FOSS sort of person and any profit motive would kill such an effort outright. What I am asking now is if this would be something people are interested in, both app developers and users? Let me know! submitted by /u/CozyProject [link] [comments]
