Original Summary

Hey, some of you might remember FlashLyrics, the Android lyrics overlay I shared here. Thanks again to everyone who tried it and sent feedback. The comments about lyric syncing and usability were really helpful. This time I've been working on Re-Edit PDF. I wanted a desktop PDF editor for the usual reading, editing and document tasks, without a subscription or having to upload the PDF to a website. I just released v1.4.4. Here's what it currently does: - Read PDFs in tabs, with thumbnails, bookmarks, search, zoom and light/dark themes. - Edit existing text and edit the replacement again. It keeps the original font and formatting where the PDF supports it; you can also use bundled, installed or imported fonts. - Add highlights, notes, drawings, shapes, images and signatures. - Run English OCR offline, then save a searchable copy or overwrite the current file. - Combine PDFs and reorder, rotate, extract or delete pages. - Fill supported PDF forms, redact content, and sign a copy using a P12/PFX certificate. - Export text to Word, or import Office documents through an optional LibreOffice installation. - Print through an app-specific dialog, keep/remove/star recent files, and check for updates from the app. The recent work has mostly been on things that make a PDF editor frustrating: text selection jumping between lines, font handling, repeated edits, OCR, inconsistent buttons and cleanup when closing documents. It's free and open source under AGPL-3.0. Windows has an installer and a portable EXE. Linux has DEB, RPM, AppImage and tar.gz builds. I tested the packages on Windows, Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora; the Linux GUI tests use containers/Xvfb. It's still a work in progress, not a complete Acrobat replacement. Complex layouts and some fonts are tricky, OCR is English-only, and scanned text doesn't give you perfect original typography. The Windows downloads are unsigned, so you may see a publisher warning. What PDF task do you usually need an editor for, and where does this one fall short? submitted by /u/TryingT0DoBetter [link] [comments]
