Original Summary
Hi all, I'd like a gut check before I go further with this. Every tax season I see freelancers go through the same scramble: a year of receipts and bank lines, and no clear answer to "what can I actually deduct, and where does it go on Schedule C?" So I'm building a tool that does the sorting for you: - Add a receipt or your bank history, and each expense is filed under the right Schedule C line (advertising, supplies, travel, meals at 50%, and so on). - It follows published IRS rules and shows the source for each one, so you can see why something counts. Groceries can't quietly become "office supplies." - You stay in charge. Business or personal is your call. Anything unusual asks for a short reason, saved with the expense, for the day someone asks. - No surprise in January. It shows your next quarterly estimated tax payment and how much is left to pay. - At tax time, you get a line-by-line Schedule C summary to hand to your preparer. It's a record-keeper, not tax advice, and it doesn't file anything. It's a one-time purchase, not another subscription, and your records stay yours. My question: would something like this be useful to you? And what do you use today: a spreadsheet, an app, your accountant, or a shoebox? Honest answers, including "no", help the most. Thanks! submitted by /u/rorozer0 [link] [comments]
