Original Summary
Hey everyone, Thought I’d share something I’ve been working on. I used TrainerRoad, but got tired of paying subscriptions and still not having all the features I wanted. So decided to build my own indoor cycling app. As one does 😅 It’s called Apex Velo Lab. I’ve moved my own training over to it, and now made it free and open source. Thought I’d make it available in case anyone else finds it useful too. My favourite part is looking back through historical workouts and using them to create new ones. I love digging into the data, seeing what I’ve actually done, and then building a session around that. Having the workouts, history and analytics together was a big thing I wanted. It’s grown into quite a lot: Bluetooth trainer control and structured ERG workouts. Power meter and heart-rate connections, with PowerMatch. Power curves, critical power, fitness / fatigue / form. A phone remote so you can control the workout from the bike. Sync your past activities from Strava to build up your ride history, or import ride files. FIT export too. Optional AI to explore your training history and create workouts / training blocks. Heart rate, resting HR, HRV and sleep sync from Apple Health. Automatic local backups. It runs on your own computer. No account or subscription for the app, and your ride history is stored locally. AI is optional. You can use Gemini, Claude or ChatGPT through your own API key. Google currently has a free Gemini API tier for selected models, with usage limits: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/pricing Paid models cost extra, and an existing ChatGPT subscription doesn’t include API usage. If you use AI, relevant training data gets sent to whichever provider you choose. Google’s free tier allows that content to be used to improve its products. The Apple Health sync uses the iPhone Health Auto Export app—its automatic exports need a paid tier. So that bit does have an extra cost if you want it. Here it is: https://github.com/dacronje-quant/Apex-Velo-Lab On Windows, download the ZIP, extract it and double-click Launch-Apex-Velo.bat. Instructions for Mac / Linux are there too. There’s an Explore a demo option, so you don’t need a trainer to have a look around. For actual Bluetooth riding, use desktop Chrome or Edge with a compatible trainer. I built it for myself and enjoy using it, so thought I’d put it out there. If anyone else finds it useful too, that would be pretty cool 🙂 Feel free to have a look if you’re keen. And if you do try it, happy to hear what you think. submitted by /u/quant_man [link] [comments]
