Hi everyone, I’m working on a project idea and wanted to validate whether it is strong enough for a university capstone project. Our professor was having us do an AI based research but I didn't want to do it. So he asked me and my team to suggest an idea for what we wanted to do. And I already had this project on which I wanted to work further. I have already built a stock portfolio management web app where users can: Create and manage multiple portfolios Add buy and sell transactions Track current holdings and sold stocks Calculate realized and unrealized profit/loss Track brokerage, tax, dividends, stock splits, and bonus shares View live stock prices See portfolio summaries and performance charts Import/export portfolio data Rebalance portfolio holdings View stock details and basic analysis Now I’m thinking of expanding it into a more complete investment analytics and strategy simulation platform. The features I’m planning to add are: Backtesting for portfolios Rebalancing period in backtesting, like monthly/quarterly/yearly Strategy builder without coding Example rule: BUY RELIANCE QTY(10) IF RSI(14) < 30 More advanced rule example: INCREASE RELIANCE BY 20% IF DMA(50) CROSSES ABOVE DMA(200) Broker integration, where users can assign different portfolios to different brokers and run their strategies. Basically algorithmic trading but with investment. Payment/subscription credits as a future commercial feature The main idea is not just to show what the user owns, but to help them test investment decisions before making them. Do you think this is strong enough for a final year capstone project? I am afraid the professor will dismiss it as basic?
