Original Summary

Hey all, I'm an indie iOS dev (solo). A few years ago I made PianoSprout, a little piano toy for kids: the keys light up one by one and you just tap along — the app handles the rhythm for you, so you can "play" a song with zero music theory. My own kid was the first tester. Today I shipped version 2.3. The theme this time is practice — making it easier for kids to actually learn, not just follow the lights: Listen first, then play. The app plays the song once so kids can hear it before they try it themselves. Loop a tricky measure. Stuck on a bar? Loop it and practice at your own pace. Magic keys. New mode where any key plays the right note — so even the littlest kids can play the real melody. MusicXML import (new) and improved MIDI import — bring your own sheet music in. Pick up where you left off — each song remembers your progress. It's free, no ads, no in-app purchases, no account, and it collects no data (kids' app, that part was non-negotiable for me). Here it is: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pianosprout/id1519974306 Two questions for you: 1. For parents: does a "listen first" step actually help your kid, or do they just want to dive in and tap? 2. Any songs you'd want in the next pack? (2.2 brought the library to 30; 2.3 added more classics like Moonlight Sonata and Wedding March.) Happy to answer anything about the build. submitted by /u/embbnux [link] [comments]
