Original Summary
I got my first customer today, and honestly, I didn’t really know how to react. Not because $12 is a life-changing amount of money, but because I built this product entirely from the ground up. Throughout the whole process, there was always one question in the back of my mind: “Is anyone actually going to pay for this?” Today, I finally got my answer: yes. It’s only one customer, and I’m not pretending that I’ve “made it,” but going from zero to one feels surprisingly meaningful. A complete stranger found something I created and decided it was worth paying for. I didn’t want the automated Stripe receipt to be the only thing they heard from me, so I sent them this email: Hi [blured_name], I’m Florent. I built PreviewKit. You’re the first person to ever pay for it, so I wanted to send a real email rather than let the Stripe receipt be the only thing you hear from me. Genuinely, thank you. I’ve been working on this for a while, and today was the first time someone decided it was worth paying for. If you’ve got two minutes, I’d love to know: What were you making a video for? Was there a moment when you thought, “Okay, this is worth $12”? Was there anything that annoyed you, confused you, or almost made you close the tab? The last one is the most useful to me. I’m still early enough that I can change basically anything. Right now, I’m mostly guessing about what might be frustrating because I built it and already know where all the buttons are. If you ever encounter a bug or need something it doesn’t do yet, just reply to this email. It comes straight to me. Thanks again, seriously. Florent For those of you who have already experienced it: do you remember your first paying customer, and did going from zero to one feel this meaningful to you too? submitted by /u/Danteboiz420 [link] [comments]
