Original Summary
I'm the solo developer of GearGenius, a car maintenance tracker for iPhone and Android. It gives a car one health score out of 100, keeps the service log, and reminds you before small jobs turn expensive. It went live on iOS on 23 September and on Android on 2 October. What it does: - A health score out of 100. Half is upkeep (what has been serviced, the distance since, what is overdue). The rest is the car's age, mileage, make and fuel type, and every factor is shown. - Service log, schedule, reminders and a fuel log. - Genie, a built-in assistant that already knows your car. - Fault codes through a Bluetooth LE OBD-II adapter. Free for one car, no ads. Pro is €5.99 a month or €49.99 a year. What I've learned in two weeks: Views are not installs. My best TikTok carousel reached about 34K views. The first nine days of the app brought 44 downloads. Where the app appears matters more than how good the content is. With the app on the last slide, about 36% of viewers ever saw it. Moving it to slide 4 took that to about 62%. Answering beats posting. Replying to real questions in car owner groups, openly as the app's page, brought the page its first followers. Before that, the page's own posts had brought none. Store search is a wall for a new app. In week one it sat outside the top 200 for every generic term, with zero ratings. What I'd like to know: If you've taken a consumer app past its first 1,000 users, what moved it between week two and month three? And if you try it, I'd rather hear what's wrong than what's right. It's "GearGenius" on the App Store and Google Play. Happy to post a link if anyone wants one. submitted by /u/angelosbuildz [link] [comments]
