Original Summary
I've used Lightroom and Photoshop for years and got tired of the subscription, the bloat and the slowdown. So I built my own, starting with the photo editor (about six months of work), and now I'm getting it and a newer vector/draw app ready to share: SilverLayer (photo, Windows + macOS): full-resolution RAW, real layers, film looks, Negative Development for scanned film. Tested on 1,684 RAW files from 8 brands. I have been a concert/festival-photographer for 4-5 years now, and I need a better workflow. SilverNib (Windows + macOS later): editable vector strokes, a good library of brushes, CAD-style exact geometry and raster painting, with pen support for Windows. Coming from graphic design and CAD/CAM/CNC I have been missing an app that also could combine them all. And drawing a lot on my 2-in-1 laptop, I wanted pen support and drawing mode too. Both are offline, no account, one payment, no subscription. (updates and DropBox support is optional) What I'm not claiming: they're not full Adobe replacements. SilverLayer edits fast (~30 ms slider response on a 24 MP RAW) but RAW import and export are slower than Adobe's, but that is something I am looking into (the pipeline is basically Lightroom and Photoshop combined, enabling layers) SilverNib is newer and still in beta. I built them with AI coding agents, which is a lot of cleanup work, testing and loopholes, not "one prompt". You can click around the real interface here (screenshots, no editing): https://silverlayer.app/demo I am building these two apps after MY needs, but the response has been that I am not the only one. There is a lot left to finish, collecting feedback from testers, fixing bugs, building the structure around update-pipeline, sales, web, marketing and finetuning a few things, again. But I am getting closer and closer! I'd love to hear what you'd want from tools like this, or what would make you not trust it. (and before you shoot the AI-slop-gun, I am really trying my best to make this unsloppy, using AI agents for coding, debugging, sourcing has been a great help and I wouldn't come this far without it) - Kristoffer submitted by /u/No-Hamster1716 [link] [comments]
