Original Summary
Side project I've been building: The Million Dollar Flat . It's a cosy low-poly 3D flat "in Cardiff" with one tenant, Natasha, who is an AI (clearly labelled), and her AI cat Biscuit. You can wander round, chat to her, and read the diary she writes every morning. The actual experiment: local shops can move an object into her flat (a candle, a plant, a doormat). Natasha then writes about them in her diary over the following weeks, and each shop gets a factual page with its name, address and what it sells. All of it is public, machine-readable, and labelled as paid. The question I'm testing is whether that gets small shops mentioned when someone asks an AI assistant "where can I buy a nice candle in Cardiff?". Plenty of businesses are starting to worry about AI search the way they used to worry about Google, and small shops have no budget for it. How I'm measuring it: Before a shop moves in, I ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews the same 5 questions about them. I repeat them at 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks. I'll publish the results, including if it does nothing. Stack: TanStack Start, React Three Fiber (the flat is built entirely from primitives, no model files), Supabase, Stripe, and an LLM for the chat and diary. A human (me) approves every diary entry before it goes live. I'd love feedback on the idea and the test method. What would convince you it works? https://milliondollarflat.com submitted by /u/HotSatisfaction5810 [link] [comments]
