I made Melodious, an app where you upload a song and get a music video back. I am a solo founder, so this is the honest version of what the build has been like, in case it helps someone else. What it does: you upload a track, describe the idea (or let it suggest one), and it writes a storyboard, makes stills for each shot, and renders the video. The first storyboard is free so you can see the plan before paying anything. After that it is subscription credits, from $19 a month. What went wrong, in the order it hurt: - I priced it too late. For a while the product worked and nobody could buy it properly, so the numbers said "no demand" when the truth was "no checkout". Check that a stranger can pay you before you decide nobody wants it. - A model provider had a capacity incident while new people were signing up. One step took over a minute, my gateway gives up at 29 seconds, and the first thing a few new users saw was an error. The work was actually finishing in the background. Design for the day your biggest dependency is slow, not only the day it is down. - My client retried the slow request three times in a minute, which made the incident worse and cost me more. A retry is a decision, not a default. - I spent far too long building before showing anyone. Getting the first short video posted felt like more progress than a month of features. What went right: stills before motion. Showing people a storyboard before they pay turned out to be the part they trust. It lets someone say "that is not what I meant" for free. What it costs me to run: video generation is the big line by a long way, which is why I show the plan first and ask for money before the expensive step.
