Original Summary
I’ve been building a discovery platform called AGMAN, and one assumption I had early on was that getting a good profile published was most of the job. I’m starting to think that’s wrong. A profile tells you what a product or person does, but that information alone gets stale pretty quickly. This week I saw three completely different updates from people already listed: One professional published a new research guide. One app started looking for early testers. Another product was preparing an offer around an upcoming launch. None of those things justified creating a new listing. But they were useful reasons for someone to discover the profile again. So I’m starting to think there are really two layers to discovery: Identity: what is this, who is it for, what can it do? Activity: what is happening with it now? Most directories seem heavily focused on the first one. Launch platforms handle the second one briefly, but mostly around launch day. I’m experimenting with keeping both together: a persistent profile plus publisher updates that can surface through discovery and editorial distribution. I’m still figuring out where the line should be though. Too few updates and the profile becomes stale. Too many and you’ve basically rebuilt a social feed. For people building products: would recent meaningful updates actually help you evaluate something you discovered, or would you rather a discovery profile stay mostly static? For context, I’m building AGMAN, so this comes directly from what I’m seeing while working on it. submitted by /u/Initial-Wrangler-939 [link] [comments]
