Original Summary
Went out with 8 people in SF, one Dungeness crab on the bill, two of us ate it. "Let's split it evenly" turned into 20 minutes of Venmo math at the table. I went home and built this instead of sleeping. https://cutcrab.com How it works: make an event, send the link to the group, snap the receipt. It reads the items (AI, not perfect, you can fix them by hand), you enter the tip, everyone taps what they had. Each person sees what to pay to whoever picked up the bill, and that person ticks them off as the money comes in. It splits tax and tip over the items proportionally and rounds so it actually adds up to the cent. Ignores the "suggested tip" junk at the bottom of US receipts. You can type the total your card got charged and it figures out the tip. Oysters can be split in half. Works with whatever currency is on the receipt. Free, no accounts, no app store, no ads. Runs on Cloudflare workers, one durable object per dinner. Vanilla JS, no build step, because I wanted to be done. Caveats: links are unlisted but guessable so don't put your SSN in there. Receipt scans are rate limited, manual entry always works. Been using it with my friends for a few days. If you try it on a real receipt and it gets something wrong I'd really like to see that receipt. submitted by /u/swiss3210 [link] [comments]
