Original Summary
Then we checked what AI engines were actually citing. The brand’s own domain appeared in under 3% of the sources across the category queries we tested. Reddit showed up at more than 3× that rate . The rest was mostly review sites, comparison pages, forums and YouTube transcripts. That was the interesting part. The brand wasn’t invisible. AI knew the brand. But when asked questions like: Which brand is better for durability? Which appliance is worth buying? Which brand has better after-sales support? …the evidence AI was using often came from somewhere else. One old forum discussion about customer service was still influencing answers. We changed how the brand’s product facts, service claims, warranty information and supporting evidence were structured and published. Four weeks later, owned-domain citations moved from roughly 3% → 8% in the same test set. One brand. One category. One four-week window. Not claiming this is universal. But it changed how I think about AI visibility. Ranking #1 isn't the same thing as being one of the sources AI trusts. Has anyone else measured the actual source mix behind ChatGPT/Gemini/Perplexity answers? submitted by /u/Creepy-Opening1465 [link] [comments]
