Original Summary
I'm the person building Mac MCP, a free open-source project for macOS. I originally built it because I wanted to ask ChatGPT to do something on my Mac, not just explain which buttons I should click. For example, I can ask it to: - Research communities in Safari, write a few different posts, save the links in a local tracker and close the tabs it opened. - Open a repo, run checks, work with files and tell me the result. - Coordinate Codex/OpenCode subagents only when a separate coding agent is really needed. - Work in background Safari/Chrome tabs so I can keep using my computer. The reason I'm posting another update is v2.1.9. Mac MCP now has a panel inside ChatGPT itself . While chatting, I can open a side panel to see tool activity, running agents and token usage, or pick the provider/model ChatGPT should delegate to. The app also gained better browser batching, approval options for risky actions, and more reliable updates. GPT-6 has now reached the ChatGPT Chat tab for paid users. This is a big deal for my workflow: I can run agentic work for 30+ minutes using normal ChatGPT Chat and spend zero Codex quota . In practice I have unlimited ChatGPT-driven Mac workflows, and Codex remains a separate option instead of the default cost of every task. It's MIT-licensed and runs locally on your own Mac. Not a SaaS and no separate subscription to Mac MCP.
