Original Summary
Long time lurker, first time poster. We're building a tool that answers for people when they're not available. The idea is simple: you should be able to sit in a meeting and pay attention to the meeting, close your laptop at 5 and not keep thinking about work all evening, and take a week off without checking Slack from the beach "just in case." Something about how we work now feels broken to me. Somewhere along the way being reachable all the time became the default, and nobody really agreed to it. You answer the late message because the other person is blocked. You check in on vacation because otherwise you'll come back to a mess. It's not that anyone is forcing you, it's that the work stalls when you're gone, so you just don't fully go. Here's my problem though - I know I'm biased, and it's really hard to get a straight reality check when you're the one building the thing. Friends say it's a great idea, people in the space are polite, and none of that tells me much. So I'm asking you guys: Is this something you've experienced? Is it something people actually want or need, or have most of you made peace with always being on and it's honestly fine? If you've found a way to fully switch off, I'd like to know how you pulled it off too. Be brutal, I'd rather hear it now Just for feedback: https://www.standin.co/ submitted by /u/Millercpt1 [link] [comments]
