Original Summary
I just shipped my first Play Store app: Knit Easy, a pattern companion for knitters and crocheters. The problem: knitters follow patterns from PDFs or paper and constantly lose their place. Existing apps are often ad-heavy or subscription-based. What I built: - PDF/photo pattern import - Row highlighter overlay on the pattern - Linked counters (rows + repeats) - Fully offline, no account, no backend needed - One-time Pro unlock instead of a subscription Some decisions I made: - Offline-first from day one. Users knit in places without Wi-Fi, and no backend also means no server costs. - No ads. It hurts short-term revenue, but ads in the middle of a row ruin the experience. - No sign-up. It's one less reason for someone to uninstall in the first 30 seconds. The hardest part was building for a hobby I don't do. I had to learn what "repeats," "rounds," and "charts" actually mean to users. Would love feedback on the app or the monetization model: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.optimistic.knit_easy submitted by /u/smily099 [link] [comments]
