Original Summary
Two days ago I posted plagueintel.com here, the tracker for the suspected plague death in Irkutsk that keeps official statements and rumours apart. Quick update with real numbers, since you liked that format last time with hantaflow. Numbers (Plausible, Monday 10am to Wednesday 11am CEST): 1,956 visitors, 4,497 pageviews day 1: 173, day 2: 1,148, day 3 is at 650 by 11am 60% mobile. US 727, UK 161, Canada 106, Australia 66, Germany 59 Where they came from: Google 832, direct 603 (a lot of that is the Reddit app, it strips the referrer), Bing 156, DuckDuckGo 149, X 64, Reddit 38, Bluesky 33, Yandex 26, ChatGPT 23 Search Console for Tuesday: 222 clicks from 1,302 impressions. "plague tracker" alone brought 88 clicks at position 2.5, "russia plague tracker" sits at 1.7. Not bad for a domain that's 2 days old. Funny contrast to hantaflow: there Yandex sent 2,600 of 4,000 visitors on day 2. This time Yandex sent 26. The Russian version does show up on Google for "карта чумы" though. What I changed because of your comments: Someone asked for a history when a claim moves from reported to disputed. Every claim now has a label history with the source behind each change and the minute it went live on the site, so people arriving through an old link can see what changed. Someone pointed out that crossing out the word "Retracted" reads like a retracted retraction. Fair. Now the old label is struck through next to a separate Retracted label. The floating card on the homepage looked like it was drifting away from Irkutsk. It sits still now. Other stuff: German version, plus news feeds in Polish, Ukrainian and Italian. The Polish filter has to ignore Camus (his novel The Plague is "Dżuma" in Polish) and the Ukrainian one the Milky Way, which is "Чумацький шлях", literally the plague-cart road. The rumour check now traces each claim to its first post. Someone on X used it to find out that the famous "five quarantined hospitals" came from one Telegram post with one anonymous source, and "five" only showed up in English rewrites. A Reuters video producer emailed asking if they could use screenshots. I thought it was phishing, then my webmail mangled the apostrophe in her email address. By the time my reply got through, the video was out. The site now has a press note saying you don't need to ask. Where the case stands: Russia told WHO there was no plague "in her or in anyone else" and that all contacts are released, but no lab result is public and WHO is still asking which pathogen it was. The site says exactly that and nothing more. Question for the SEO people: Google sends almost everyone to the homepage (21% CTR). The actual Irkutsk briefing got 157 impressions and 1 click on Tuesday. Is that just position (6 vs 3), or should I rework the title? submitted by /u/MassSass99 [link] [comments]
