Original Summary
I was sharing one of my side projects and received a comment. It was something like, "This is the most overengineered thing I've ever seen in my life." Hyperbole? probably. It made me think: is that always such a bad thing? I started this particular project and have enjoyed building more and more features and functionality, so the user is probably right. For context (not promotion), the tool handles batch image resize, format, optimize, rename, crop, color, etc in a single "designer" interface. Funny part is they didn't even see what I was working on and recently launched: a command editor that lets you record your actions (like Photoshop) to save recipes for when you need to prep images the same way in batches over and over. And then the overkill/overengineer, I added voice command so you can tell it what you want and it converts that to a recipe. Anyone else think overengineering may sometimes be a good thing? I'd love to see examples of your side projects where you think overengineering was good. submitted by /u/Ill_Command_1200 [link] [comments]
