On August 10, I lost Aki. To some people he may have been “just a dog,” but to me he was part of my family — my youngest son. In the days following his loss, I searched for an online place where I could create a memorial for him: somewhere to preserve his photographs, videos and the story of our life together. I could not find anything that truly reflected what I was feeling. The services I liked required payment, and I simply could not afford them. So I decided to try to build one myself. That is how Most Duge was born — an online memorial created not only for Aki, but for anyone who has lost a beloved animal and wants a special place to keep their memory alive. I would especially like to underline one important thing: Most Duge is completely and 100% free to use. There is no payment required to create a memorial, preserve photographs and videos, light virtual candles or leave messages. It works very simply. First, you create a memorial with your companion’s name, dates, photograph and dedication. Over time, you can add more photographs, videos and important moments, gradually building their life story in chronological order. Family members and friends can visit the memorial, light a virtual candle, leave a message and return whenever they feel the need. The person who created it can connect the memorial to a personal profile and invite other family members to help preserve those memories. The website is available in Italian and Serbian. Aki was a little Italian dog raised in a Serbian family, and he understood both languages perfectly. It felt right that the place created in his memory should speak both of them. I do not know whether a website can make such a painful loss easier. I only know that creating it gave me somewhere to go whenever I missed him too much.
