I'm building a mystery you can 3D print — meet The Alchemist's Study, and try the free introduction

Original Summary
I'm Jon, the maker behind Merlin 3D. I've been building The Printed Secret: mystery experiences that bring a browser investigation together with 3D-printed books and puzzle tools on your table. The larger experience I'm developing is The Alchemist's Study . In 1698, Aurelian Vane vanished from his study, leaving the door bolted from within and an unfinished notebook behind. You investigate what survived, following the story on screen and working with physical objects rather than simply reading the next clue. The idea is that printing is the beginning of the adventure: make the objects, put them on your table, then discover what they mean. Alchemist requires 3D-printed books and puzzle tools: you'll need access to a printer, or someone who can print them for you. You also need a desktop computer with a 3D-print slicer, because inspecting a model is part of the investigation. Alchemist is currently in private testing, with more physical testing to do. It isn't on sale yet. The exact kit is still being tested, so don't order parts from this preview. I'm planning to crowdfund The Alchemist's Study once the game and physical pieces are ready. There isn't a launch date yet; for now, I'd like honest feedback to help me get it right before taking that step. For something you can actually try now, The Apprentice's Test is a separate free browser beta . No printer, purchase or access code is needed, and an account is optional: Play The Apprentice's Test I'd genuinely appreciate constructive feedback from makers and puzzle players. After trying Apprentice, what was unclear, where did the pacing drag, and did the hints give you the right amount of help? For Alchemist's physical side, what would you need to know about printing and assembly before wanting to try it? Specific criticism is more useful to me than a polite thumbs-up. Feedback about what didn't work is welcome too. You can reply here, or join The Printed Secret Discord . In Discord, open #the-apprentices-test , select New Post , then choose the Feedback or Bug tag. Please include your device/browser, what happened, what you expected, and anything that confused you. Discord needs a Discord account, but not a Printed Secret account. Prefer not to use Discord? Email [ support@theprintedsecret.com ](mailto: support@theprintedsecret.com ); it's also on the website's help page . Please keep puzzle answers, access codes and personal information out of public replies or Discord posts. I've used AI tools to help with parts of development, alongside the physical design and prototype work. submitted by /u/JonnyBass23 [link] [comments]
